SURVIVE 2B ALIVE!

Sarcoma Kills. We need to stop it now. Though it's a rare cancer, scientists can create life-saving treatments. Sarcoma research needs to be supported. Why am I alive to tell you this? To represent my sarcoma friends struggling to survive, their loved ones, and the skilled professionals who devote their careers serving them. But, most of all, for those who live in my heart. I will continue this journey until I have joined those who've gone before.

How many Sarcoma types?

Most reports say more than fifty types of soft tissue sarcoma have been documented. Each must be individually researched, evaluated and treated. When you add solid tumor, and bone sarcomas to that, the number of types increase. I once spent a day or so researching how many sarcomas there were. From various sources: World Health Organization, bonetumor.org, and PubMed, I was surprised at the total. After a little elimination process for sarcomas which went by two different names, the list was verified by a musculo skeletal tumor specialist, and the final count was 79 distinct types of sarcomas

Extracts From Reishi Mushroom And Green Tea Shows Synergistic Effect To Slow Sarcoma

  • a new study by Chinese scientists found that combining the active ingredients in the reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum; Lingzhi) and green tea creates synergetic effects that inhibited the growth of tumors and delayed the time of death in mice with sarcomas.

High-Dose Radiation Treatment Effective At Fighting Some Cancers In Children

Managing Symptoms By Mobile Phone May Revolutionize Cancer Care For Young People

  • Researchers are harnessing the powers of digital communications technology to help young cancer patients at home manage the side-effects caused by chemotherapy. So far, it has been tested in teenagers aged 13-18 with lymphoma, soft tissue sarcoma and bone tumours

New Strategies With Greater Antitumorous Efficacy

  • One of the biggest problems in the current treatment of cancer is that the agents that are efficacious in the destruction of tumorous cells are, at the same time, extremely toxic for the rest of the healthy cells and tissues of the patient. Researchers tested various biomodulators on a number of different tumorous modules such as melanoma, sarcoma and cancer of the colon.

New Theory Of How Viruses May Contribute To Cancer

  • Infection with viruses has been linked to many human cancers, including some forms of Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, sarcomas and cancers of the throat and liver.

Novel Mechanism For Spread Of Sarcoma Tumors Discovered

  • Scientists, using a mouse model, have uncovered a novel protein interaction that promotes the spread of cancer cells (a process known as metastasis) in a class of tumors collectively called sarcomas. ...

Scans Spot Hidden Tumors In Rare Cancer Syndrome

  • Researchers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute report that full-body PET/CT scanning detected unsuspected, treatable tumors in 3 of 15 patients with Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS), a rare genetic cancer syndrome for which no screening tests have been recommended. In most cases, the cause is a mutation in the TP53 tumor suppressor gene that can be inherited and creates a high risk of a variety of malignancies, including sarcomas,

To Evade Chemotherapy, Some Cancer Cells Mimic Stem Cells

  • Anti-cancer treatments often effectively shrink the size of tumors, but some might have an opposite effect, actually expanding the small population of cancer stem cells believed to drive the disease.. ... They selected a rare form of cancer, mesenchymal chondrosarcoma (MCS), which has not been well described and for which there is no effective treatment.

Virus Discovered Using Same Tools As Host Cell

  • Researchers have discovered that the virus which causes Kaposi's Sarcoma encodes a molecule for controlling gene regulation nearly identical to one found normally in human cells. Both versions of the ..

Ways To Teach Approved Drugs New Tricks: How To Combat Cancer
